ABOUT FCM

Founded in 2009, Fairfax Conservatory of Music is a private music conservatory dedicated to the creative enrichment of the community. We offer artistic, personalized lessons to students of all ages, levels, and musical backgrounds with an emphasis on creative learning and technique. Our school belongs to the Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA) and Northern Virginia Music Teacher's Association (NVMTA), providing additional recital, competition, and audition opportunities. We offer Recitals and unique Performance Opportunities, in addition to Masterclasses, Creative Workshops, and annual Faculty Performances as well. Our teachers lead by example.
For Adult Students in particular, we are one of Metro-DC's/Northern Virginia's top music centers offering exclusive opportunities through Adult-Only Soirées and Enrichment Programs that include workshops, performance classes, lecture-recitals, and more. All our piano students have regular opportunities to play/learn on a Concert Grand Steinway, Semi-Concert Grand Grotrian, and multiple additional Grand pianos of high-performance-grade quality. Due to high enrollment numbers of piano students, we are able to offer chamber music opportunities to all instrumentalists and vocalists. This enables students to learn how to collaborate with their peers. FCM Faculty are Award-Winning, Dedicated Pedagogues, and international performers, with many having performed at Carnegie Hall and other prestigious venues, while others have outstanding teaching-lineages. For example, the Director, having been taught by Vivien Harvey Slater, from Eisenberger, Leschetizky, Liszt, Czerny, and directly back to Beethoven.
Unlike a typical music school, our private conservatory does not automatically accept every applicant and requires all applicants to audition for a spot in our programs. The audition is structured to be a constructive, positive experience in which every applicant is given a chance to learn more about how to proceed with their music education. Our audition process includes a musical evaluation and consultation to determine musical strengths and weaknesses, learning style, and a discussion of musical goals (depending on age/experience). Auditions are accepted for all levels of playing ability, from absolute beginner to advanced, from ages 4 to those well beyond retirement. Music is for life.
